Description & Purpose
MARK or EX and MOD nomenclature is used as a means of identifying ordnance, navigation and diving systems and equipment in the experimental, developmental, in-production, follow-on production and in-service phase.
The completed data provides the means to request MARK and MOD (or EX and MOD) nomenclature. Implementation of uniform procedures is assured through use of NAVSEA Form 5030/1, Nomenclature Assignment Request (NAR).
Application & Interrelationship
This Data Item Description contains the format and content preparation instructions for the data product generated by the specific and discrete task requirement as delineated in the contract.
This Data Item Description (DID) supersedes DI-E-2000A.
NAVSEA Form 5030/1 may be obtained from the NAVSEA supply room, Naval Sea Systems Command, 2521 Jefferson Davis Highway, National Center Building 2 (NC #2), Room 1W33, Arlington, VA., 22202.
Preparation Instructions
10.1Reference Documents.The applicable issue of documents cited herein, including approval dates of any applicable amendments, notices and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.
10.2Content.A request for nomenclature assignment shall be prepared on a NAVSEA Form 5030/1, Nomenclature Assignment Request (NAR), and shall contain the following:
10.2.1BLOCK 1 - ORIGINATOR & ADDRESS.Name and address of the activity originating the NAR.
10.2.2BLOCK 2 - ORIGINATOR POINT OF CONTACT.Name, department or code and telephone number of the point of contact within the originating activity.
10.2.3BLOCK 3 - SOURCE REQUEST NUMBER.Leave blank.
10.2.4BLOCK 4 - DATE OF REQUEST.The date the NAR form was prepared and submitted.
10.2.5BLOCK 5 - ACTION REQUESTED.Mark appropriate box. (Indicate in Block 9 which previously approved form is being revised or canceled.)
10.2.6BLOCK 6 - REFERENCE(S).Indicate the applicable Contract Number, SEATASK Number, or Authorization Document.
10.2.7BLOCK 7 - RECOMMENDED NOMENCLATURE OF ITEM.The recommended Name and Type Designation of the item. The name of the item should be limited to 24 characters.
10.2.8BLOCK 8 - ASSIGNED NOMENCLATURE OF ITEM.Leave blank. The assigned Name and Type Designator of the item.
10.2.9BLOCK 9 - TECHNICAL DATA.As applicable, enter the following functional and physical characteristics or features and technical information on the item being nomenclatured.
10.2.9.1Technical Characteristics.Provide a functional description of the item and include any technical characteristics pertinent to the item which are required for a complete understanding of the item's operating parameters.
10.2.9.2Operating Power Requirement.Give AC or DC voltage, hertz, phase, current, etc.
10.2.9.3Overall Dimensions and Weight.Identify the overall dimensions and weight.
10.2.9.4Mounting Data.Identify any unique mounting configurations.
10.2.9.5Material Data.List the kind of material of which the item is constructed.
10.2.9.6Special Features.List unusual characteristics which are essential for identification.
10.2.9.7Interchangeability.Identify the functional and physical interchangeability features, as applicable.
10.2.9.8Similar Items.When a new MOD number is requested, characteristics that are considered to justify a new MOD number shall be described in detail. A completed statement shall also be included similar to the following: "This item is similar to the MOD ____, except that ____."
10.2.9.9Complement Data.List the subsystem components that make up the item being nomenclatured. The components shall be identified by name and Drawing or Part Number. Identify the quantity of each component item listed.
10.2.9.10Design Activity Data.
10.2.9.10.1Name and Address of the Design Activity.
10.2.9.10.2Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code.
10.2.9.11Manufacturer's Data (If Known).
10.2.9.11.1Name and Address of the manufacturer.
10.2.9.11.2CAGE Code and Part Number.
10.2.9.12If NAR Form action requested is a"Revision" or "Cancellation", indicate by referencing the Source Request Number of the previously approved NAR Form. If it is a "Revision", indicate which data on the form (e.g. item name, type designator or technical data) has been changed.
10.2.10BLOCK 10 - GOVERNMENT SPECIFICATION NUMBERThe number of the applicable government specification.
10.2.11BLOCK 11 - TOP ASSEMBLY OR GENERAL ARRANGEMENT DRAWING NUMBERThe number of the applicable top assembly or general arrangement drawing for the item being nomenclatured.
10.2.12BLOCK 12 - EQUIPMENT OF WHICH THIS ITEM IS A PART.The next higher assembly for which the item is a part.
10.2.13BLOCK 13 - EQUIPMENT WITH WHICH THIS ITEM IS USED.The major system or equipment application on which the item is used.
10.2.14BLOCK 14 - COGNIZANT PROGRAM OFFICE CONCURRENCE.The designated Government Program Office Representative having technical and life cycle responsibility for the item being nomenclatured.
10.2.15BLOCK 15 - NAR PROCESSOR CONCURRENCE.Leave blank.
10.2.16BLOCK 16 - APPROVAL OF NOMENCLATURE ASSIGNMENT.Leave blank. Indicate approval of the nomenclature assignment made in Block 8.
