To document in descriptive detail Level 'A' preservation, packaging, and packing employed by the contractor in providing protection in the handling, storage, and shipment of Government equipment.
This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data product resulting from the work task described by MIL-E-17555(2), Electronic and Electrical Equipment, Accessories, and Provisioned Items (Repair Parts), entire content, and NSA Data Standard 61, and Appendix A.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference Document.The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as cited in the current issue of the DODISS at the time of the solicitation and for non-DODISS-listed documents as stated herein. NSA Data Standard 61, the current edition, and Appendix A can be found at Department of Defense, National Security Agency, 9800 Savage Rd, Fort George G. Meade, Md. 20755-6000; Attention: I5221.
2Format.Shall be in the contractor's format.
3.1When the Government has not providedGovernment-Furnished (GF) PP&P drawings, representing Level A, Preservation, Packaging, and Packing in accordance with MIL-E-17555, Electronic and Electrical Equipment, Accessories, and Provisioned Items (Repair Parts): Packaging of, the contractor shall prepare the set of PP&P drawings in accordance with Data Standard 61 and Appendix A which truly depicts Level A PP&P requirements of the contract. The PP&P drawings shall reflex the detail, in both sketch and narrative, the sequence of all steps taken by the contractor in the packaging and packing of the equipment, ancillary equipment, and a typical equipment spare parts pack exhibit. The drawings shall also contain necessary information detailing unit packaging, methods, submethods, materials, shipping weight, and cubic foot displacement of the shipping container. All materials used in the packaging and packing sequences shall be related to applicable Federal or Military Specifications and their pertinent types, grades, styles, and classes. When Government specifications are not available, the materials shall be detailed and the vendor source indicated.
3.2When GF PP&P drawings are providedthe contractor has the option of meeting the requirements of the contract by:
3.2.1Modifying, when necessary, the GF PP&P drawings(s)in accordance with the revision requirements of Data Standard 61 and Appendix A to satisfy all contract PP&P requirements, or
3.2.2Preparing new PP&P drawing(s) in accordancewith the reference documents, or
3.2.3Using the GF PP&P drawings.
3.3Regardless of the option exercised, thecontractor shall be responsible for meeting all contractual requirements for PP&P. The contractor shall furnish copies, as specified in the contract, or new or revised PP&P drawings(s) to the Government for review. Government approval of the PP&P drawings(s) is based upon the successful completion of the Rough Handling Tests and full compliance with the requirements of Data Standard 61 and Appendix A for drawing preparation.
3.4Delivery of the drawings(s)shall be in accordance with the DD Form 1423.
