The Production-Level Mission Critical System (MCS) Immunity Test (PMIT) Plan will be used to perform the PMIT described in detail in MIL-STD-3023A, High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) Protection for Military Aircraft. DI-EMCS-81848, Production-Level Mission Critical System (MCS) Immunity Test (PMIT) Plan, is hereby cancelled and superseded by DI-EMCS-81848A. Information to be acquired through the test plan for the PMIT will include the detailed test procedures, equipment, and other related data.
This DID must be prepared for each aircraft MCS.
This DID contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data product resulting from the work task described by Appendix C of MIL-STD-3023A, and is applicable to the acquisition of military systems, equipment, and facilities.
This DID supersedes DI-EMCS-81848.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference documents.The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract. Classification of the Production-Level Mission Critical System (MCS) Immunity Test (PMIT) Plan shall be determined using any relevant aircraft- or system-specific classification guides and also the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Security Classification Guide for DoD Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Programs and Activities. (DTRA's security classification guide is available by mail request to ATTN: RD-NTSA, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, 8725 John J. Kingman Road, MSC 6201, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-6201.)
2Format.Contractor format is acceptable for the test plan (comma-separated values (CSV) is the preferred data format).
3Content.The Production-Level Mission Critical System (MCS) Immunity Test (PMIT) Plan shall be IAW the test plan format recommended in Appendix C of MIL-STD-3023A and is specified in the contract.
3.1Administrative data.The Production-Level Mission Critical System (MCS) Immunity Test (PMIT) Plan shall contain an administrative section covering the following:
3.1.1Contract number, contract data requirements list (CDRL) number, and date
3.1.2Authentication and certification of a qualified representative of the procuring activity for the test plan
3.2Test procedures and equipment
3.2.1Introduction section.This section shall contain a brief overview of the PMIT.
3.2.2Test equipment description section.This section shall contain, at a minimum, a table summarizing the test equipment providing manufacturers and part numbers.
3.2.3PMIT test procedure section.This section shall contain a detailed discussion of the test procedures and, at a minimum, shall include the following information:
3.2.3.1A description of the PMIT pulser and its calibration into a 100-ohm load to demonstrate a 10-A capability.
3.2.3.2If the pulser does not have a 10-A current limit capability, then a description of how the injected current will be monitored is required, along with a description of how not to exceed 10-A.
3.2.3.3The 10-A limit can be tailored to a higher level for externally mounted MCS, if warranted.
3.2.4A description of the MCS test points.
3.2.4.1These test points should be consistent with the MIL-STD-461 CS116 (or equivalent) immunity test points (see DI-EMCS-81853 for a description of that test)
3.2.4.2Every port on the MCS and its associated cabling is to be tested
3.2.5Test chronology.This section includes the sequence of events.
3.2.6A description of the MCS condition.
3.2.6.1Power-on and other equipment or representative loads connected to the MCS
3.2.6.2The test points used for the PMIT
3.2.7The method for determining that the PMIT did not damage the MCS.
3.2.7.1For example, if the MCS operated normally when powered on after the PMIT
3.2.7.2Criteria for determining normal operation
3.2.7.3A full operational test of the MCS is not required
3.2.7.4Note damage is a critical characteristic when applying the results of this PMIT test procedure to MIL-STD-1916
