The Production-Level Mission Critical Systems (MCS) Immunity Test (PMIT) Report applies to MIL-STD-3023A, High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) Protection for Military Aircraft. DI-EMCS-81849, Production-Level MCS (Mission Critical System) Immunity Test (PMIT) Report, is hereby cancelled and superseded by DI-EMCS-81849A. This data item description (DID) contains the format, content, and intended-use information for the data deliverable resulting from the PMIT test tasks performed in accordance with MIL-STD-3023A.
The purpose of PMIT is to test every MCS installed inside or outside the HEMP-protection subsystem's (HPS') electromagnetic barrier to establish a known minimum strength level in terms of a 30-MHz damped sine wave. During a PMIT test of an internal MCS unit, three injections of a 10-A damped sine wave pulse with a 30-MHz center frequency are applied into the MCS while it is in a powered-on state. For MCS located external to the HPS, the same test applies except the 10-A level may be increased to account for the higher HEMP-induced currents on MCS and its cabling located external to an aircraft. This 30-MHz sine wave center frequency is assessed to be a reasonable representation of the peak stress an MCS may experience from all frequencies that span the HEMP spectrum. The PMIT test is deemed successful if it causes no unacceptable mission degrading damage to the MCS unit under test.
The Production-Level Mission Critical Systems (MCS) Immunity Test (PMIT) Report documents the methods of test-execution, data-recording, analysis, inspection, and reporting that were used by the contractor to assess and document the results of the MCS's performance. For each individual MCS that was PMIT tested, an individual test report shall be prepared. The report provides the means for the Government to evaluate and certify the HEMP-protection performance results of the MCS in that the report demonstrates that the MCS under test continues to function in its normal operating mode post testing.
The report includes discussion of recommended corrective actions, if needed.
If the MCS has previously been PMIT tested by a previous test program, then the documentation of those previous tests, including reports and test data, is attached as an appendix to the Production-Level Mission Critical Systems (MCS) Immunity Test (PMIT) Report.
This DID supersedes DI-EMCS-81849.
