Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) Report

The Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) Report is a formal record of the contractor's environmental stress screening results. This report is used by the procuring activity to evaluate the effectiveness of the contractor's ESS program and monitor ESS results.
This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, and preparation instructions for the data product resulting from the work task specified in the contract.
Preparation Instructions
1Format.The ESS report shall be in contractor's format.
2Content.The ESS report shall contain the following sections:
2.1Random Vibration.This section shall contain the following:
2.1.2Equipment nomenclature.
2.1.3Equipment part number.
2.1.4Subassembly part number (if ESS is performed at the subassembly level).
2.1.5Date of the vibration screen.
2.1.6Serial number of the unit(s) subjected to vibration screen.
2.1.8Time at the start of vibration.
2.1.9Time when vibration stopped.
2.1.10Duration of the vibration screen.
2.1.11Elapsed time from the start of the vibration screen to each failure (if applicable).
2.1.12Failed component (circuit card, module or assembly).
2.1.13Part number or name of failed part.
2.1.14Reference designation of failed part.
2.1.15Failure mode of failed part.
2.1.16Cause of failure of part.
2.1.17Corrective action required, taken or planned.
2.1.18Analysis of results to determine screening effectiveness.
2.1.19Any recommended changes to the ESS procedures or program.
2.2Temperature Cycling.This section shall contain the following:
2.2.2Equipment nomenclature.
2.2.3Equipment part number.
2.2.4Subassembly part number (if ESS is performed at the subassembly level).
2.2.5Date and time of temperature cycling (at the start of each cycle).
2.2.6Serial number of the unit(s) subjected to temperature cycling.
2.2.7Elapsed time from start of temperature cycling to each failure (if applicable).
2.2.8Number of the cycle during which each failure occurred.
2.2.9Indication of point in cycle when failure occurred (hot or cold).
2.2.10Failed component (circuit card, module or assembly).
2.2.11Part number or name of failed part.
2.2.12Reference designation of failed part.
2.2.13Failure mode of failed part.
2.2.14Cause of failure of part.
2.2.15Corrective action required, taken or planned.
2.2.16Analysis of results to determine screening effectiveness.
2.2.17Any recommended changes to the ESS procedures or program.
2.3Laboratory Equipment Data.This section shall contain the following:
2.3.1Random Vibration Equipment
2.3.1.1Identification by model number and manufacturer of equipment in the vibration system.
2.3.1.2Photographs of mounting fixture and mounting arrangement for each item to be vibrated.The photographs must include enough detail to show mounting arrangements and accelerometer locations.
2.3.1.3A plot of the actual random vibration spectrum recorded during vibration and used for control purposes, identifying frequencies, power and spectral density, and degrees of freedom (or actual filter bandwidths used in the analyses of the spectrum).
2.3.1.4Description of procedure used to perform the vibration.
2.3.2Temperature Cycling Equipment
2.3.2.1Identification by model number and manufacturer of the temperature chamber.
2.3.2.2Maximum and minimum temperatures.
2.3.2.3Maximum and minimum rate of change of temperature.
2.3.2.4Description of procedure used to perform the temperature cycling.
