Description & Purpose
This report provides the Government with the inspection and test results of the first article forging and sufficient details to describe the process required to make the forgings to assist in preventing changes without Government approval.
Application & Interrelationship
This Data Item Description contains the format and content preparation instructions for the data product generated by the specific and discrete task requirement as delineated in the contract.
This DID is applicable to first article forgings both ferrous and nonferrous.
When so marked, the data product covered by this Data Item Description shall be considered proprietary by the Government and shall not be released to anyone outside the Government.
This DID supersedes, in part, UDI-T-23790.
Preparation Instructions
10.1FormatThe first article test report shall be prepared on standard 8-1/2 X 11 inch bond paper in contractor format. First page of the report shall include company letterhead.
10.2ContentFirst article forging report shall contain the following, unless otherwise specified:
10.2.2Part name and drawing number.
10.2.3Forging sketch identification.
10.2.5Reforging stock source
10.2.6Reforging stock size
10.2.7Forging process, i.e., heating and working cycles
10.2.8Forging facility (i.e., hammer press etc.), size and location.
10.2.9Actual heat treatment times and temperatures.
10.2.10Results of the specified first article non destructive tests.
10.2.11Results of the specified first article mechanical property tests.
10.2.12Results of any other tests required by the applicable specification and the contract for the first article forging.
10.3Additional content.Sketches, drawings, and photographs shall be included as necessary to fully describe or clarify the text material. The report shall contain the signature of a responsible company officer, identification number, and date.
