The Sound Test Failure Notification and Recommendations Report aids the Government in deciding whether to accept an equipment item which fails to meet airborne sound criteria or structureborne vibratory acceleration criteria.
a. This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, and preparation instructions for that data generated as specified in MIL-STD-1474.
b. This DID supersedes DI-HFAC-80271.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference documents.The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions shall be as specified in the contract.
2Format.The Sound Test Failure Notification and Recommendations Report shall be in the Contractor's format.
3Content.The Sound Test Failure Notification and Recommendations Report shall contain the following sections.
3.1Introductory information.This section shall contain a statement that the equipment failed to meet the airborne sound criteria, the structureborne vibratory acceleration criteria, and if applicable, both criteria.
3.2Test and equipment information.This section shall contain the following:
3.2.1Equipment to be evaluated, including contract number.
3.2.2Ship name(s) and hull number(s), if known, for which the unit is being acquired.
3.2.3Evaluation measurements to be performed.
3.2.4Evaluating activity and test site.
3.2.7Driven and driver unit manufacturers and serial numbers.Driver unit horsepower.
3.2.8Equipment specification acceptance criteria (airborne sound pressure levels, structureborne vibratory acceleration levels, or both).
3.2.9Tabular or graphic records of the data from the test and from the retests of modified equipment.
3.2.10Documentation of specific actions taken to correct the equipment sound levels, acceleration levels, or both.
3.2.11Identification of the cause of the failure(s).
3.2.12Specific recommendations for design modifications or materiel changes which may permit the equipment to meet the criteria.
3.2.13Estimated time to implement the design modifications described in 3.2.l above.
