Description & Purpose
This plan provides a description of the structureborne sound test procedure, facility and measurement system in advance of test to demonstrate planned compliance with requirements of MIL-STD-740-2.
Application & Interrelationship
This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format and content preparation instructions for that data generated under the work task described by 4.2 of MIL-STD-740-2.
This DID may be applied for each type, class, rating, and grade of equipment to be measured on each contract or order when MIL-STD-740-2 is invoked.
The data generated under the requirements of this DID may be combined with the data generated under DI-HFAC-80270 associated with MIL-STD-740-1.
This DID supersedes UDI-T-23756.
Preparation Instructions
10.1General test plan requirements.The plan shall contain the following information:
10.1.1Test and equipment information.
10.1.1.1Equipment to be evaluated, including contract number.
10.1.1.2Ship names and hull number, if known, for which the unit is being acquired.
10.1.1.3Evaluation measurements to be performed.
10.1.1.4Evaluating activity and test site.
10.1.1.5Test date if established.
10.1.1.6Equipment specification acceptance criteria.
10.1.1.7Driven and driver unit manufacturers.
10.1.1.8Driver unit horsepower (HP).
10.1.1.9Rated electrical characteristics, including volts, amperes, phase.
10.1.1.10Rated fluid media parameters (flow rates, temperatures, pressures, etc.)
10.1.1.11Equipment rated operational speeds (driver and driven unit revolutions per minute (r/min), etc.)
10.1.1.12Expected equipment noise and vibration sources and their frequencies of excitation (rotationals, gear tooth contact, blade rate, etc.).
10.1.1.13Resilient mount manufacturer and model number.
10.1.1.14Dates of manufacture of resilient mounts to be used.
10.1.1.15Number of resilient mounts to be used.
10.1.1.16If the use of non-Navy standard resilient mounts has been approved, provide the characteristics including load rating in pounds and resonant frequency data, of the mounts used.
10.1.1.17Planned equipment load during test (full, half, etc.).
10.1.1.18Planned operating speeds during test.
10.1.1.19Planned throttling conditions, if any.
10.1.1.20Planned operating suction and discharge fluid media parameters during test (flow rates, pressures and temperatures, etc.).
10.1.1.21Planned electrical inputs, outputs or both during test.
10.1.1.22Block diagrams and identification of make and model of measurement and analysis instrumentation to be used.
10.1.1.23Block diagrams and identification of make and model of system calibration instrumentation to be used.
10.1.1.24Place and date of latest laboratory calibration of measurement instruments, system calibration instruments (including field calibrators), and analysis instruments which will be used.
10.1.2Drawings and sketches to show assembly information, equipment details and the test set up.
10.1.2.1Overall unit dimensions and orientation (vertical, horizontal, etc.) to be used during test.
10.1.2.2Identification of major components.
10.1.2.3Interface information.
10.1.2.4Mounting locations and dimensions.
10.1.2.5Weights and center of gravity for major components.
10.1.2.6Resilient mount orientation (vertical, horizontal, angle), approximate load on each mount, attachment locations, overall unit weight and center of gravity.
10.1.2.7Pedestal or subbase dimensions, materials and weight, when applicable.
10.1.2.8Dimensions, materials, and weight of the mounting fixture if a mounting fixture other than the standard fixture is to be used.
10.1.2.9Planned arrangement and description of flexible pipes and ducts, if to be used.
10.1.2.10Planned arrangement of test piping and fittings.
10.1.2.11Planned arrangement of electrical power leads.
10.1.2.12Planned location and description of test instrumentation used to measure r/min, flow rates, total discharge head, etc.
10.1.2.13Planned locations of resilient mounts and pedestals or fixtures that support the equipment.
10.1.2.14Approximate location and orientation of each accelerometer relative to equipment features or mounts and method of attachment of accelerometers.
10.1.3.1Tabular and graphic data format to be used in tabulating and recording structureborne vibratory acceleration data.
