System Sanitization is be used to identify all collateral classified and controlled unclassified information (CUI) as per the program security classification guide. Identify all semiconductor memory which includes battery backed random access memory and magnetic data storage devices in each Weapons Replaceable Assembly (WRA).

This DID contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data product resulting from the work task described in the contract statement of work (SOW).

This DID supersedes DI-MGMT-82149.

Preparation Instructions

1Referenced Documents.The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.

1.1National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication (NIST SP) 800-88r1 Guidelines for Media Sanitization Dec 2014.

2Format.Contractor format is acceptable.

3Content.The report shall contain the following:

3.1Title Page to include:

3.1.1Program Name.

3.1.2Program Manager's Name and Telephone Number.

3.2Revision Page.

3.3List of Reference Documents.

3.4Table of Contents.

3.5Body Content: System Sanitization.

3.5.1Describe the systems and subsystems that store, process or transmit controlled unclassified information and collateral classified data as per the program security classification guide and subsequent NIST SP 800-88 sanitization methodology.

3.5.2For systems that require purging, describe proposed sanitization methods that will be addressed and are such that they meet the applicable guidance of the NIST SP 800-88 and the United States Navy.

3.6Definition of abbreviations and acronyms.

4Appendices may be used for each individual subsystem, e.g., mission management system, vehicle management system, Link-16 system, communications system.Sanitization is the removal of information from the storage device such that data recovery using any known technique or analysis is prevented.
