Description & Purpose
This DID identifies the format and content requirement covered by the specific and discrete task for the contractor to prepare this data product identified in the contract Statement of Work (SOW).
The Ballistic Acceptance Test Report records the summarized results for each phase of the ballistic acceptance testing required by an item detail specification. It serves as an official firing and acceptance record.
Application & Interrelationship
This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format and content preparation instructions for that data product generated by the specific and discrete task requirement for this data included in the contract.
This DID applies to all phases of the life cycle of an item.
This DID supersedes DI-R-1727, Quality Inspection Ballistic Acceptance Test.
Preparation Instructions
10.1Contract.This data item is generated by the contract which contains a specific and discrete work task to develop this data product.
10.2General.The data to be reported encompasses testing requirements prescribed by the item detail specification.
10.3Format.The Ballistic Acceptance Test Report shall be in contractor's format.
10.4Content.Each Ballistic Acceptance Test Report shall contain the following:
10.4.1Contract No. and Manufacturer.
10.4.2End Item Nomenclature.
10.4.3Item detail specification number and title (including any amendment).
10.4.4Lot No. and Quantity.
10.4.6Total rounds expended on test (listed by test phases when applicable).
10.4.7One-page summary of test performed, and overall results.
10.4.8Detailed results of each applicable phase.
10.5Detailed Contents. In addition to the general contents, the following detailed contents shall be provided as cited in the item detail specification(s) in the contract:
10.5.1Projectile ExtractionRequirement shall be shown and the individual cartridge results reported. Findings of propellant contamination examinations shall also be reported.
10.5.2Projectile TorqueRequirement shall be shown and number out of sample meeting requirement reported.
10.5.3Velocity, Pressure, Water ProofnessRequirements shall be shown and the individual round readings recorded. Both the means and sample standard deviation shall be computed and recorded. If corrections are applied, the basis for the corrections shall be fully documented and the corrected or uncorrected means shown. Test barrels shall be identified by number and age (rounds).
10.5.4AccuracyThe Horizontal and vertical standard deviations for each target shall be recorded as well as the pooled values. Wind conditions, temperature, barometric pressure, target distance, and test barrel identification (and round age) shall also be reported.
10.5.5Action TimeIndividual times shall be recorded for each sample cartridge and the mean and standard deviation computed and reported.
10.5.6Projectile TraceTrace times for each individual sample cartridge shall be reported. Light and temperature conditions, as well as test barrel(s) identification and round history, shall also be reported.
10.5.7Function and CasualtyRecord test weapon(s) and barrel(s) identifications and round ages, individual cyclic rates, and witness screen observations.
10.5.8PenetrationRecord velocity and penetration results and depict all computational values. Test barrel information is also required.
10.5.9Projectile FunctionReport sample rounds fired and number of successful rounds fired for each type of check (i.e., impact nonfunction, impact function, target sensitivity, projectile self destruct). Test weapons or barrel(s) identification (and round age) shall also be reported.
