Description & Purpose
This manual will reveal the results of a special study/analysis to determine the most acceptable color schemes of paints and other covering materials for use in decorating/painting/preserving habitability spaces. This manual will be used to specify color schemes in habitability spaces.
Application & Interrelationship
This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format and content preparation instructions for the data product generated by a specific and discrete task requirement as delineated in the contract.
This DID supersedes UDI-M-26404.

Preparation Instructions
10.1Reference documents.The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.
10.2Format.The color coordination manual shall consist of two parts:
10.2.1Samples.Swatchboards of actual samples of material and color schemes proposed for each space.
10.2.2Volume(s).One or more volumes composed of loose-leaf pages in a three-ring binder. The loose-leaf pages shall be high-quality, accurate color photographic reproductions of the swatchboards and shall be assembled in an orderly manner to form the Color Coordination Manual.
10.3Content.Each of the two parts shall contain:
10.3.3Introduction.A description of methods used in the study/analysis.
10.3.4General Notes.(as necessary for clarification/understanding).
10.3.5Material Section.It shall contain a material section consisting of specifications/descriptions and samples of material and color schemes, arranged by material category (e.g., deck covering, tile; deck covering, carpet; bulkhead covering, paint; etc.) for color schemes developed.
10.3.6Swatchboard.A swatchboard of actual samples of materials which have been specified in the Ship Specification for use in the particular space. A sample shall be included for each and every covering material. The actual material samples shall be permanently bonded to the swatchboard. The size of the exposure that each material shall have in proportion to the amount and exposure that each material shall have in the compartment. Next to each material sample there shall be a letter code ("a", "b", "c", etc.), as identified in the U.S. Navy Shipboard Color Coordination Guidance Manual, NAVSEA 0929-002-7010, for use in cross-referencing with the Material Schedule and Arrangement Drawing.
10.3.7Material Schedules.A material schedule listing the commercial identification and description for each material sample on the swatchboard. Next to each material description the corresponding letter code shall be indicated.
10.3.8Arrangement Drawing.An arrangement Drawing of the compartment annotated with the aforementioned letter code to indicate where each material sample would be used. The Arrangement Drawing for the compartment shall be shown next to the swatchboard and the material schedule.
