Use & Relationship
The Flutter Model Test Report will be used to provide a record of experimental flutter characteristics and degree of accuracy as to model simulation of actual vehicles. The principal use is to investigate overall vehicle design characteristics as well as specific problem areas, particularly areas which do not lend easily to analysis. Also, test results when correlated with corresponding theoretical results validate the methods used in the actual air vehicle flutter analysis.
a. This Data Item Description (DID) is applicable to any contract for which flutter model testing is required.
b. This DID contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data deliverable resulting from the work task described in the contract.
c. DI-MISC-81389A supersedes DI-MISC-81389.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference Documents. The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices and revision, shall be as specified in the contract.
2Format.The Flutter Model Test Report shall be in the contractor's format.
3Content.This report shall contain, when applicable, results of the following:
3.1Date and place of tests.
3.2Model design scale factors (or ratios) of the model parameters as compared to similar parameters of the full scale vehicle.
3.3Photographs of representative models and of the model support.
3.4Results of tests used to check that the model does simulate the air vehicle.
3.6Mode and frequency of flutter encountered if flutter occurs.
3.7Comparisons of test results with corresponding theoretical results.
3.8Presentation of results shall include:
3.8.1Plots showing the wind tunnel characteristics and indicating the flutter boundary that must be attained (including the flutter margin).
3.8.2Plots of flutter speed and frequency versus the variation in important parameters.
3.8.3Plots of the damping coefficient, g, and the frequency versus velocity if transients are measured.
