The Minimum Essential Subsystem List (MESL) identifies the minimum essential systems and subsystems that must function on an aerospace vehicle for it to perform specifically assigned unit wartime, training, test or other missions and that are critical to aircraft mission performance.

a. The Government will use this information to assure that equipment is in place for accomplishment of the mission.

b. This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format and content preparation instructions for the data product generated by the specific and discrete task requirement as delineated in the contract.

c. This DID is applicable to the acquisitions of foreign country maintenance and maintenance personnel training.

d. This DID supersedes DI-MISC-81417.

3Content:

3.1Listing of subsystems that must be operational to perform requirements of the contract.

3.2Identify the functions of the subsystem with failure consequence and severity if the subsystem failed.

3.3Identify the mission critical line replaceable units (LRUs) and the minimum number of the mission critical LRUs to continue to operate and maximum allowable operating hours.
