NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010 248 Section 5 establishes the criteria for qualification and testing of welders and weld operators. Each Contractor, Sub-contractor, or welding entity performing welding on items governed by this document shall establish that each welder and welding operator to be employed for welding has been qualified by demonstrating their ability to produce welds, which meet the requirements of this section.
This DID contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data product resulting from the work task described in the contract Statement of Work (SOW).

3.3Content.The supplier shall have in place a compliant welder Performance Qualification and Training program in accordance with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, Section 5. Accordingly, specific objective evidence shall be provided to demonstrate compliance.
3.3.1Personnel QualificationsWelding personnel shall be qualified for each specific type of weld in accordance with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, paragraph 5.2.3 and have documentation to verify the qualification. The supplier shall provide evidence by way of copies of personnel qualification records corresponding to each specific weld. For each welder, the supplier shall also provide evidence of satisfactory training for workmanship and visual inspection.
3.3.2Training Program Description and ApprovalThe supplier shall provide evidence that the training program in accordance with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, paragraph 5.2.3.1 is properly established by way of submitting a copy of the program or making reference to the same via a statement of compliance including, if applicable, where the program exists within their quality program and/or operating procedures (i.e. excerpt from a Table of Contents; cover page of the program document, reference to a procedure number, etc). This evidence shall be accompanied by additional evidence showing that the training program has been approved by the Level III examiner certified in accordance with NAVSEA T9074-AS-GIB-010/271.
3.3.3Qualification MaintenanceAll welding personnel shall keep current in accordance NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248, paragraph 5.2.11 for all types of welds they are qualified and produce a representative production weld at least once, each three month period (or quarter). The supplier shall provide evidence that qualification is being maintained be providing a description of how the information is obtained (excerpt or reference to a standard operation procedure) along with a sample of the objective evidence acquired and maintained when using their procedure.
