The NWSDD defines the nuclear configuration of the aircraft's avionics and nuclear weapon delivery systems, including test and support equipment. The nuclear configuration is defined by the hardware and software/firmware components of the aircraft's avionics system and nuclear weapon delivery system.
a. This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format and content preparation instructions data resulting from the work task described by MIL-STD-1822.

Preparation Instructions
1Reference documents.The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices and revisions, shall be as specified in the solicitation or contract.
2Format.Contractor format is acceptable.
3Content.The content and format of this document shall be divided into three sections as defined below:
3.1The first section of the document defines the nuclear hardware configuration of the aircraft's avionics system and the aircraft's nuclear weapon delivery system.This section shall define the nuclear hardware components in a table format. The table shall cover the avionics system and the nuclear weapon delivery system components. The contents of the table shall be:
3.1.1The official configuration item nomenclature for each nuclear hardware component.
3.1.2The descriptive title each hardware component or line replaceable unit is known by.
3.1.3A description of the function each hardware component serves within its system.
3.2The second section of the document defines the nuclear software/firmware configuration of the aircraft's avionics system and the aircraft's nuclear weapon delivery system.The nuclear configuration shall be defined in this section by the nuclear avionics software/firmware. This section shall define the nuclear software/firmware components in a table format. The contents of the table shall be:
3.2.1The contractor computer program identification number for each nuclear software/firmware component.
3.2.2The descriptive title of each software/firmware component
3.2.3A description of the function each software/firmware component serves within its system.
3.2.4The hardware components each software/firmware component is associated with.
3.3The third section is used to clarify and expand the nuclear configuration item table entries.This section shall be used to include test and support equipment and information that do not readily fit into a table format.
