The Container Design Retrieval System (CDRS) Data Input is used to continually update the Department of Defense (DoD) computerized CDRS database, and is accessible at https://lts.cce.af.mil/CDRS. Usage of the CDRS database precludes the design of new specialized containers when suitable containers exist and has a proven history of substantial cost avoidance.
This system is maintained by the Air Force Packaging Technology and Engineering Facility (AFPTEF) at Wright-Patterson AFB, http://www.aflcmc.af.mil/afptef.
a. This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data deliverable resulting from the work task described in the solicitation.
b. This DID supersedes DI-PACK-80684D.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference documents.The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.
2Format.The CDRS Data Input shall be in the contractor's format. The CDRS can be accessed at https://lts.cce.af.mil/CDRS. Completed CDRS Data Input shall be emailed to: [email protected]. Requestors with government Common Access Cards (CACs) can also submit data through CDRS. 3Content.The CDRS Data Input shall specify the following container design characteristics:
3.1Official container nomenclature.
3.2National stock number (NSN).
3.3Drawing number, Commercial or Government Entity (CAGE) Code, or design agency.
3.4Reference documents, such as, identified technical report number, specification number, and sources for this information.
3.5Tare weightthe weight in pounds of the empty container, including dunnage, in decimal values of one significant digit.
3.6Maximum gross weightthe weight in pounds of the container, dunnage, and heaviest item shipped in the container in decimal values of one significant digit.
3.7Quantity packnumber of items packed in a single container.
3.8High temperature (F)the upper temperature limits to which the container can be subjected and still function properly as determined by specification requirements, analysis, or testing.
3.9Low temperature (F)the lower temperature limits to which the container can be subjected and still function properly as determined by specification requirements, analysis, or testing.
3.10Container Dimensions (internal and external)
3.11Container characteristicsmajor material used in container construction, container shape, container opening type, and type of shock mitigation system used.
3.12Stacking heightthe maximum superimposed load (in pounds) that the container, with item, can support or has been tested to (include specification number or test method).
3.13Design costcost of designing, developing, prototyping, and testing container.
3.14Unit pricethe production unit cost of manufacturing the container relative to quantity purchased.
3.15Packaged item designationthe official alpha-numeric assigned to the packaged item per MIL-STD-2073-1, Standard Practice for Military Packaging. (Copies of this document are available online at https://quicksearch.dla.mil.)
3.16Packaged item nomenclaturethe official name or title assigned, for example, fuse, bomb, engine, computer.
