Use & Relationship
The Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) Backfit Analysis Report identifies and defines the methodology and data requirements to validate existing approved maintenance requirements, including analysis for occurrence of expected dominant failure modes, evidence of age degradation, applicability and effectiveness.
This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, preparation instructions and intended use information for the data product resulting from the work tasks described in D.4 of MIL-STD-3034A.
This DID is related to DI-PSSS-80980B, RCM Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) Report; DI-PSSS-80985B, RCM Servicing and Lubrication Analysis (SLA) Report; DI-PSSS-80989B, RCM Inactive Equipment Maintenance (IEM) Requirement Analysis Report; DI-PSSS-81829A, RCM Corrective Maintenance (CM) Development Report; DI-PSSS-80988B, RCM Task Definition Report; DI-PSSS-80991B, Planned Maintenance System (PMS) Maintenance Requirement Card (MRC); DI-PSSS-80992B, Planned Maintenance System (PMS) Maintenance Index Page (MIP); DI-PSSS-81823B, RCM Class Maintenance Plan (CMP) DI-PSSS-80993A, PMS Quality Assurance Check Sheet.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference Documents. The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.
2Format.The Backfit Analysis Report shall be in the format of Figure 1 of this DID.
3Content.The Backfit Analysis Report shall contain all the information specified in the sample form of Figure 1 of this DID and as specified in MIL-STD-3034A, paragraph D.4.
3.1Block 1 - Control Number.Enter the unique identification code of the maintenance task under review (i.e., for PMS, enter MIP control number and MRC control number separated by a slash (MIP/MRC), for Class Maintenance Plan tasks, enter the CMP task number, etc.).
3.2Block 2 - System.Enter the nomenclature of the associated system or subsystem.
3.3Block 3 - Task Description.Enter the maintenance task description or summary. For PMS MRCs with more than one task description, use a separate Backfit Analysis Report form for each task description.
3.4Block 4 - Periodicity.Enter the task periodicity or calendar frequency.
3.5Block 5 - Prepared By.Enter the analyst's name and the date.
3.6Block 6 - Reviewed By.Enter the first level reviewer's printed name, signature and the date.
3.7Block 7 - System ISE or TA.Enter the name and phone number of the system In-Service Engineer (ISE) or other technical authority (TA).
3.8Block 8 - Functional Failure.Enter the functional failure identified in paragraph D.4.3.
3.9Block 9 - Failure Mode.Enter the failure mode identified in paragraph D.4.3.
3.10Block 10 - Age Degradation.Enter "Y" or "N" corresponding to the answer determined in paragraph D.4.4. If the answer is "No", mark "Delete Task" in the change recommendations section (Block 15). Rationale for this deletion shall be entered in Block 16.
3.11Block 11 - Task Type.Enter the task type identified in paragraph D.4.5.
3.12Block 12 - Applicable?.Enter "Y" or "N" corresponding to the answer determined in paragraph D.4.6. Enter "Y" for a "Yes" answer that the task satisfies all the appropriate rules for applicability. Enter in Block 16 rationale for how each applicability rule is satisfied, or how the maintenance task was modified to make it applicable. Enter "N" for a "No" answer that the task, as written, does not satisfy all applicability rules for that type of task. Enter in Block 16 recommended improvements to change the task so it will satisfy the applicability rules. If a task cannot be modified to satisfy the applicability criteria, enter an explanation as to why not in Block 16 and enter a change recommendation the task be deleted in Block 15.
3.13Block 13 - Consequence.Enter the consequence of the failure identified in paragraph D.4.7. When more than one consequence is identified, enter the highest level of concern (e.g., if mission and safety are identified, enter safety).
3.14Block 14 - Effective?.Enter "Y" or "N" corresponding to the answer determined in paragraph D.4.8. Enter "Y" for a "Yes" answer that the task satisfies the rules for effectiveness. Enter in Block 16 rationale for how the effectiveness rule is satisfied. Enter "N" for a "No" answer that the task, as written, does not satisfy the effectiveness rule. Enter in Block 16 recommended improvements to change the task so it will satisfy the effectiveness rule. If a task cannot be modified to satisfy the effectiveness criteria, enter an explanation as to why not in Block 16 and enter a change recommendation the task be deleted in Block 15.
3.15Block 15 - Change Recommendation.Enter an "X" in the appropriate box within Block 15 for the recommended change to the maintenance requirement being analyzed including task improvements identified in paragraph D.4.9.
3.16Block 16 - Rationale and Summary of Recommended Changes.Enter and record all rationale for applicable and effective tasks as well as any maintenance task modifications or change recommendations. Rationale shall include sufficient detail description to support development of a new or modified MIP, MRC or CMP task.
3.17Block 17 - ISE or TA Approval.Enter the approval signature of the ISE or other designated technical authority listed in Block 7.
3.18Block 18 - Date.Enter the date of signature by the ISE or other designated technical authority signing for approval.
