Description & Purpose
3.1 The Installation Specification provides detailed installation instructions, drawings, and list of materials required to accomplish installation of ground communications-electronics (C-E) equipment, facilities, subsystems, and systems.
3.2 The Installation Specification is used to monitor a contractor's installation effort and to install similar or follow-on equipment, facilities, subsystems, or systems. When combined with Installation Test Procedures, it effectively satisfies the requirements of a C-E project package.
Application & Interrelationship
7.1 This DID contains the format and content preparation instructions for the data generated by the specific and discrete task requirement as delineated in the contract.
7.2 This DID should be used in conjunction with DI-QCIC-80511, Installation Test Procedures.
7.3 This DID supersedes DI-S-3561B.
Preparation Instructions
10.1Content.The Installation Specification shall contain the following:
10.1.1Environmental Conditions.Installation and operational requirements shall be specified.
10.1.2Installation Support.Contractor support relative to spare parts and maintenance of the equipment during the installation and installation testing periods shall be specified.
10.1.3Interfaces.Demarcation points at which interconnection to Government furnished equipment (GFE) will be made, as well as terminal designations, shall be specified. Interface with real property installed equipment (RPIE) shall also be included when applicable.
10.1.4Measurements.All equipment dimensions, sizes, volumes, weights, power, and allowable operating temperature ranges shall be specified.
10.1.5Narrative.A narrative describing installation procedures in sequential order shall be provided. The narrative shall show all installation events, major steps, and procedures necessary to put in place, assemble, and make electrical and mechanical connections to the subject equipment. This narrative shall reference and tie together the drawings, tables, and diagrams furnished.
10.1.6Tables.The following detailed tables shall be furnished:
10.1.6.1Categorized listings of all the major, minor, and hardware itemsgiving quantity, brief functional description, Air Force nomenclature, National Stock Number, manufacturer's part number, dimensions, and weights. These listings shall be divided into contractor furnished equipment (CFE) and GFE. When applicable, the GFE items will be identified as to whether they will be provided as part of the structure or furnished by the installation team as installation materials. When applicable, Air Force Communications Command (AFCC) list of materials or other Air Force nomenclatured items should be used.
10.1.6.2A list of shipping crates and contentswith overall dimensions and weights.
10.1.6.3All physical and electrical clearances and tolerances.
10.1.6.4A list of all special tools and ground handling equipment neededto accomplish the physical and electrical installation. State which items will be furnished with the equipment. The list shall give name, quantity, manufacturer, manufacturer's part number, description, and purpose.
10.1.6.5A list of all cables required to complete the installation.This list shall include cable type, length, size and number, gauge of cable conductors, cable manufacturer, and manufacturer's part numbers; circuit function of each cable conductor; and connector types and sizes, manufacturer, and manufacturer's part numbers, where applicable. The cabinet or console nomenclature and jack and pin numbers of both cable source and termination equipments shall be included. National Stock Numbers will be given, if existent. Cable routings shall be indicated by referencing cable ducts or raceways to be used. Critical cable lengths shall be specified. Redundant information shall be referenced rather than repeated. However, there shall be one entry for each cable of the system. Interface cable terminations shall be clearly identified.
10.1.6.6Manpower requirements shall be grouped by installation event and work categoryincluding titles (engineer or technician) and number of man-days for each work category.
10.1.7Building/Equipment Layout Drawings to Scale.These drawings shall identify and locate all existing equipment in the area. These drawings shall clearly indicate the location of all internal building overhead cable runs, cable trays, cable trenches, and the internal termination points of all equipment cables. These drawings shall also identify and locate all equipment to be installed in these areas and the sources and circuit numbers of primary power to be utilized, including the cable size, type, load, and circuit voltage. Areas should be indicated in which workmen will be subject to radio frequency hazards during installation.
10.1.8Installation Detail Drawings.These drawings shall show the general configuration and complete interface installation information necessary to locate, position, mount and attach any item relative to its supporting structure, or to other items.
10.1.9Interface Cable Diagrams.These diagrams shall clearly show the "from" and "to" routes of all cable connections. All cables shall be identified by cable number, type, and function. All equipments shall be identified by their nomenclature and common name. All pertinent jack numbers shall be shown. Grounding conductors and connectors shall also be shown.
10.2Format.The contractor's format is acceptable.
