Parts, Materials, and Processes (PM&P) Management Exception Data

The PM&P Management Exception Data will allow the government to assess the possible risk created by selecting or procuring a part in the design of a DoD item and to take action as a function of risk if the rationale for selecting the part and the associated mitigations are insufficient. It will also be used to verify that the contractor's parts selection processes are effective when the government uses the data in the reports to create metrics for specific part selection risks. The contractor's PM&P Management Plan describes its parts, materials, and processes selection, including responsibilities for the evaluation, documentation, and notification of part changes. The selection processes also address the allocation of system performance requirements to parts' technical requirements. The selection processes take into consideration performance tolerances, and define parts' qualification requirements to meet system performance, reliability, quality, and safety requirements. The exceptions identified in the PM&P Management Exception Data indicate areas where the contractor's processes resulted in a part selection that does not meet government preferences. The exceptions therefore identify a minimum set of parts for the government to either approve or reject and help prioritize government efforts if an entire parts list is being reviewed. This data is also used to track operations of DoD weapons systems and ensure DoD is achieving operational readiness objectives.
