This DID shall be used by the contractor to provide a listing of replenishment items recommended to be classified as CSIs and CAIs in the system, subsystem, or equipment being contracted. It shall include relevant information on the CSIs and CAIs; it shall be used by the contractor to provide updates to the recommended listing of CSIs and CAIs.

This DID contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data product resulting from the work task described in the contract.

1.5Definitions

1.5.1Critical Application ItemAn item that is essential to weapon system performance or operation, or the preservation of life or safety of operating personnel, as determined by the cognizant engineering activity(s). For the purpose of this DID, replenishment parts shall be designated "Critical Application Item" when failure of the item results in failure or malfunction of an aviation system, subsystem, or equipment, and the item is not a Critical Safety Item. (reference 1.1.)

1.5.2Critical Characteristic (CC)Any feature throughout the life cycle of a critical item, such as dimension, tolerance, finish, material, or assembly, manufacturing or inspection process, operation, field maintenance, or depot overhaul requirement that if nonconforming, missing, or degraded may cause the failure or malfunction of the critical item. (reference 1.2.)

1.5.3Critical Safety ItemAn aviation Critical Safety Item (CSI) is a part, assembly, installation equipment, launch equipment, recovery equipment, or support equipment for an aircraft or aviation weapons system that contains a characteristic any failure, malfunction, or absence of which could cause a catastrophic or critical failure resulting in the loss of or serious damage to the aircraft or weapon system, an unacceptable risk of personal injury or loss of life, or an uncommanded engine shutdown that jeopardizes safety. The determining factor in CSIs is the consequence of failure, not probability. (reference 1.2. and 1.3.)

1.5.4Replenishment PartsRepairable or consumable parts acquired after the initial provisioning process. Replenishment parts are often called spare and repair parts. (reference 1.4.)

2FormatThe listing of replenishment parts proposed to be classified as CSIs and CAIs shall be in the contractor's format.

3ContentThe listing of replenishment parts (consumable or expendable) proposed by the contractor to be classified as CSIs and CAIs in accordance with contract definitions or the definitions in this DID, shall contain the following elements:

3.1Title Page, containing the following

3.1.1Title/identification of the system/program/equipment/component/project

3.1.2Title of CDRL and CDRL number

3.1.3Contract number

3.1.4Contractor's name

3.1.5Security classification, when required

3.1.6Distribution Statement

3.2Contents in table form containing

3.2.1Prime manufacturers, vendors, or original actual manufacturer's part number

3.2.2Complete item nomenclature

3.2.3Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code

3.2.4National Stock Number (NSN) if assigned

3.2.5CSI or CAI criticality recommendation

3.2.6Basis for criticality recommendation

3.2.7Associated critical characteristics; major characteristics; special processes; and key inspections and tests

3.2.8Manufacturing source(s) including CAGE Code

3.2.9Next higher assembly part number, nomenclature, and NSN (if assigned)

3.3Replenishment parts recommended to be classified as noncriticalThe table shall include:

3.3.1Item identification including part number, nomenclature, and NSN if assigned

3.3.2Next higher assembly part number, nomenclature, and NSN if assigned

3.4All other replenishment parts not recommendedAll other replenishment parts not recommended to be CSI, CAI, or NonCritical will be considered to have criticality undetermined.
