A TDP is the authoritative technical description of an item which is clear, complete, and accurate, and in a form adequate for its intended use. This technical description supports the acquisition, production, inspection, engineering, and logistics of the item. The description defines the design, configuration, performance requirements, and procedures necessary to ensure essential interface and effective item performance. It consists of applicable technical data, such as: models, drawings, associated lists, engineering design data, specifications, standards, performance requirements, quality assurance provisions, software documentation, and packaging detail.

a. This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data deliverable resulting from the work task described in paragraph 5.4 TDP elements, MIL-STD-31000B, Technical Data Packages (available online at https://quicksearch.dla.mil), to the extent required by the contract.

b. This DID supersedes DI-SESS-80776A.

Preparation Instructions

1Reference documents.The applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.

2Format.Deliverable TDP elements shall be in the Government's format as specified on the TDP Option Selection Worksheet incorporated into the contractor or purchase order, or contractor format.

3Content.The TDP shall include one or more of the following elements:

3.1Conceptual engineering design data in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.1.1,

3.2Developmental engineering design data and associated lists in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.1.2,

3.3Product engineering design data and associated lists in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.1.3.The product design data shall document directly or by reference the following, as applicable:

3.3.1Details of unique processes, i.e., not published or generally available to industry, when essential to design and manufacture.

3.3.2Performance ratings.

3.3.3Dimensional and tolerance data.

3.3.4Critical manufacturing processes and assembly sequences.

3.3.5Toleranced input and output characteristics.

3.3.6Diagrams.

3.3.7Mechanical and electrical connections.

3.3.8Physical characteristics, including: form, finishes, and protective coatings.

3.3.9Details of material identification, including material condition, and mandatory treatments and coatings.

3.3.10Inspection, test, and evaluation criteria.

3.3.11Equipment calibration requirements.

3.3.12Quality assurance requirements.

3.3.13Hardware marking requirements.

3.3.14All required certifications, special inspections, and other environmental, operational and functional testing necessary to ensure intended performance.

3.3.15Vendor substantiation data.

3.3.16Requirements for programming software into devices or assemblies including: a description of the input media and procedures for validating that the software has been installed correctly.

3.3.17Special consideration items and processes.

3.4Commercial engineering design data and associated lists in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.1.4,

3.5Special Inspection Equipment (SIE) engineering design data and associated lists in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.2,

3.6Special Tooling (ST) engineering design data and associated lists in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.3,

3.7Specifications in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.4,

3.8Software documentation in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.5,

3.9Special Packaging Instructions (SPI) engineering design data and associated lists in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.6,

3.10Quality Assurance Provisions (QAPs) in accordance with MIL-STD-31000B paragraph 5.4.7.
