Request for Nomenclature (DD Form 61) is an automated request for an assignment, revision, or cancellation of nomenclature.

a. This data item description (DID) is applicable to systems, subsystems, centers, centrals, sets, groups, kits, units, accessories and equipment procured for research, development and production purposes.

b. This DID contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data deliverable resulting from the work tasks described in:

MIL-STD-196, Joint Electronics Type Designation Automated System

MIL-STD-1812, Aeronautical and Support Equipment Type Designation System

(Copies of MIL-STD-196 and MIL-STD-1812 are available online at https://quicksearch.dla.mil.)

ASME Y14.100, Engineering Drawing Practices

Preparation Instructions

1Reference DocumentsThe applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.
2FormatA request for nomenclature assignment shall be in the Joint Electronics Type Designation Automated Systems (JETDAS), the Aeronautical and Support Equipment Type Designation System (ASETDS), or on a DD Form 61, Request for Nomenclature, in accordance with the following instructions. 3ContentRequest for Nomenclature (DD Form 61) shall include the data specified in Table 1 below.
