A Request for Waiver is used during or after manufacture to obtain authorization to deliver nonconforming items to the Government, which do not comply with the applicable technical requirements. For the unit(s) affected, the different configuration will normally be permanent.
A Request for Waiver enables the Government to determine the impact on performance, operational readiness, logistics support or other affected areas.
This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content and preparation instructions for the data product resulting from the work task specified in the contract.
Preparation Instructions

2FormatThe Request for Waiver (RFW) shall be prepared in the contractor's format.
3ContentThe RFW content shall include the consideration to be provided if the Government accepts the request for waiver, and where applicable, the following information:
3.1A complete description of the contract requirement affected and the nature of the waiver (non-conformance)
3.2Number of units (and serial/lot numbers) to be delivered in this configuration
3.3Any impacts to logistics support elementsAny impacts to logistics support elements (such as software, manuals, spares, tools, and similar) being utilized by government personnel or to the operational use of the product.
3.4Information about remedial actions being taken to prevent reoccurrence of the non-conformance
