Use & Relationship
The Materials and Processes List Report outlines the specific materials and standardized processes used to fabricate the system, subsystem, or configuration item (CI). The data will be used to ensure standardized materials and processes with known and validated qualification requirements are being implemented in the system design.
This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, and intended use information for the data product resulting from the work task described by the contract SOW.
This DID supersedes DI-SESS-82235.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference documentsThe applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.
2FormatContractor format acceptable.
3ContentThe Materials and Processes List Report shall contain the following:
3.1Materials UsageDescribe the materials used in the system, subsystem, or configuration item such as metals (including alloy, heat treatment/strength condition, product form, and additional processing), polymers, ceramics, composites, adhesives, sealants, transparencies, organic and inorganic finish systems, and non-destructive inspection processes. Describe data on connectors, conformal coatings, gaskets, sealants, finish systems, and housings used for avionics construction.
3.2Part NomenclatureDescribe the part nomenclature, categorized by material type and part construction including machined wrought stock, castings, forgings, sheet, and sandwich construction.
3.3System DescriptionDescribe perspective 3-view drawings of the system, the system's major components/subsystems, and the structure. Describe the usage location of each material within the system. Define the strength conditions for all materials including the specific temper, age, anneal, and method of manufacture, where applicable. Define the post processing for all materials including coatings, chemical treatments, and surface modification.
3.4Fabrication and Joining MethodsDescribe the methods of fabrication and assembly of major components/subsystems. Include a description of co-cured and/or co-bonded composites, and welded metal joints. Describe the adhesive systems to be used including bonded construction, bonded studs, and bonded nut plates. Describe the use and configuration of bolted connections and all associated hardware.
3.5Specification UsageList each material and process proposed for use in the system construction. List the protective finishes, protective coatings, and sealants used for corrosion protection associated with each material. List the corresponding material specifications, process specifications, and all applicable cross references to military or industry standards.
