The purpose of the Airworthiness Plan is to document the approach to obtain and maintain an air system's airworthiness approval throughout its service life (or period of use). The plan will be used to approve the relatedness and reportability determinations.

This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format and content preparation instructions for the data product generated by the specific and discrete task requirement as delineated in the contract.

Preparation Instructions

1Reference documentsThe applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as cited in the contract.

2FormatThe EZZ Template Series 110-1 shall be used for the airworthiness plan (Copies of the templates and instructions for template use are available upon e-mail request to [email protected]).

3ContentThe Airworthiness Plan shall describe the project, system details, relatedness and reportability determinations, and the airworthiness approach. The Airworthiness Plan shall be completed in accordance with Airworthiness Bulletin (AWB)-110, "Airworthiness Planning" (Copies of the AWB are available upon e-mail request to [email protected]). The Airworthiness Plan shall include:

3.1Data IdentifiersThe Airworthiness Plan shall contain information needed to maintain configuration control (e.g., date, revision, and managing office) throughout the life of the system.

3.2System DescriptionThe Airworthiness Plan shall include information to identify the system being certified (e.g., mission design series (MDS), engine types and quantity, crew and passenger capabilities). It shall also contain a list of previous certifications obtained, either civil or military. (Copies of the AWB are available upon e-mail request to [email protected])

3.2.1If the system is a commercial derivative aircraftprogram, a summary of modifications required to convert the previously certified basic aircraft to the as-delivered configuration shall be included. The previous certification authority and the applicable type certification basis shall be identified. The AWB-360, "Commercial Derivative Aircraft Airworthiness," details the information required to document the Airworthiness seam between the certification authorities of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the USAF. All design features and functions not fully covered by the FAA shall be addressed by the Airworthiness Plan. The Project Specific Certification Plan(s) (PSCP) shall be referenced as it establishes the certification basis for aspects the FAA will approve, is derived from the applicable 14 CFR parts, and shall include special conditions, equivalent level of safety findings, and exemptions. The Airworthiness Plan must ensure alignment with the PSCP(s) for a comprehensive and complete airworthiness approach for the air system.

3.3Relatedness and Reportability DeterminationsFor modifications to air systems, relatedness and reportability determinations shall be included in accordance with AWB-120 (Copies of the AWB are available upon e-mail request to [email protected]), "Modification Airworthiness, Relatedness and Reportability Determination". Sufficient rationale must be included in the Airworthiness Plan to substantiate the relatedness and reportability determinations.

3.4Airworthiness ApproachThe Airworthiness Plan shall include the airworthiness approach in accordance with AWB-110 (Copies of the AWB are available upon e-mail request to [email protected]). This shall include a schedule of all airworthiness related activities and the approach to maintain airworthiness and substantiating data throughout the air system's service life.

3.5Contact InformationThe Airworthiness Plan shall include the contractor's responsible engineer(s) listing: name, phone number, email. The listing shall be in contractor format and shall provide points of contact for each airworthiness certification criteria. This information shall be separate from the plan.

3.6Classification MarkingDocuments shall be marked in accordance with the applicable classification marking, as necessary, in accordance with DoD Manual (DoDM) 5200.01, Volume 2, DoD Information Security Program: Marking of Information, or Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) markings (when applicable) in accordance with DoDI 5200.48, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
