Software metrics provides the status of the software effort on an acquisition program and is used by the software development lead to manage resources and execution on a software development effort.

This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format, content, and intended use for the data product resulting from the work task described in the contract Statement of Work/Performance Work Statement.

Preparation Instructions

1Referenced documentsThe applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.

1.1Standard Work Package SWP4940-024 Software Measurement Plan Template

2FormatThe deliverable shall be in contractor format unless tailored out in the Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) (DD 1423).

3ContentsMetrics shall be evaluated as part of the software engineering processes applied. These metrics shall be tailored, when appropriate, to reflect the scope of the software change, and be in compliance with NAVAIR SWP 4140-024. These metrics shall ensure software quality, maturity, and stability does not negatively deviate from demonstrated performance thresholds.

3.1Document ManagementThis section shall identify the version, release date, and other relevant management and configuration control information associated with the current version of the deliverable. A change history, highlighting significant changes from version to version shall be included.

3.2Table of ContentsThis section shall index all sections, major paragraphs, subparagraphs and appendices with page numbers.

3.3ScopeThis section shall be divided into paragraphs system overview and document overview.

3.3.1System OverviewThis section shall briefly state the purpose of the system to which this deliverable applies. It shall describe the general nature of the system and software; summarize the history of system development, operation, and maintenance; identify the project sponsor, acquirer, user, developer, and support agencies; identify current and planned operating sites; and list other relevant documents.

3.3.2Document OverviewThis section shall summarize the purpose and contents of the deliverable and shall describe any security or privacy considerations associated with its use.

3.6Build Release IndicatorsThis metric is for reporting functionality change based upon incremental builds. Each build will contain the final content as directed by the Government.
