Description & Purpose
This Data Item Description (DID) is for preparation of RPIE manuals required to operate and maintain indirect systems and equipment. Data for inclusion in these manuals are also utilized for design integration and during installation and checkout.
Application & Interrelationship
This DID contains the format and content preparation instructions for the RPIE system manuals resulting from the work task described by 3.1 of MIL-M-38312B and 3.1 of MIL-M-38313C.
This DID is for application to those systems which utilize extensive RPIE and on which the RPIE, due to extensive interface, must be operated and maintained as an integral part of the total system, often by system maintenance personnel, as well as base civil engineers or contractor personnel.
The Technical Manual Publications Plan (DI-TMSS-80063) shall include this data requirement when both technical manuals and RPIE manuals are contractually incorporated. NOTE: RPIE manuals are not technical manuals as defined in AFR 8-2.
This DID supersedes DI-M-3406.
Preparation Instructions
10.1Reference documentsThe applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates, and dates of any applicable amendments, notices and revisions shall be as specified in the contract.
aThe system manuals shall be in reproducible copyin accordance with MIL-M-38313.
bThe equipment manuals shall be complete manualsassembled and arranged in accordance with MIL-M-38312. Additional pages prepared by the contractor (cover pages, introductory pages, supplemental data, etc.) shall be collated into manuals.
cManual numbers are furnished from the contractprocuring activity upon request.
dA notice shall be completed for eachclassified manual to be classified. In addition, the appropriate portion of the applicable security guide used as an authority shall be referenced. A notice shall be furnished whenever a classified manual is prepared or the classification of the manual changes.
eData to be furnished as Government-Furnished Equipment (GFE)for incorporation into the manuals shall be acquired direct from the manufacturers as stated in contract direction.
fRequirements contained herein shall not generatethe duplication of data already developed by the contractor.
gEquipment and systems manuals listed in TableI shall be completed in support of the RPIE which is required to support systems that interface with or incorporate RPIE end items. If manuals are not listed as GFE or if additional manuals are proposed in support of this requirement, the contractor shall propose manuals to the procuring activity for approval.
10.2.1Changes and RevisionsManuals shall include necessary changes and revisions to keep them up-to-date as specified by the DD Form 1423. Changes and revisions shall provide instructions and data to reflect design, production, or modification changes. Changes shall be in the same style and format as the basic manuals.
10.2.2Manual Changes Resulting From Engineering Changes
aChanges to system manuals resulting from engineeringchanges shall be completed in accordance with a procedure approved by the program or project manager. The manuals shall reflect "before and after" modification instructions information. The "before" modification instructions shall remain in the applicable manual until changes have been made to all affected hardware.
bChanges to equipment manuals resulting from engineering drawingsshall be completed from vendor data furnished by the Government and supplemented, as necessary, by the contractor. These changes shall be approved and incorporated as directed by the procuring activity.
