Use & Relationship
This Data Item Description (DID) provides the method for presentation of gas turbine engine calculated steady-state and transient performance using computer programs. It also provides for the presentation of parametric gas turbine data including performance, weight and dimensions computed by digital computer programs. The information in this DID is intended to standardize, insofar as practical, the output from digital performance programs and to facilitate the clear, concise, unambiguous presentation of that output.
a. This DID contains the format, content and intended use of information for the data resulting from the technical content described in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aerospace Standards AS681, "Gas Turbine Engine Performance Presentation for Computer Programs" and AS755, "Aircraft Propulsion System Performance Station Designation and Nomenclature". (SAE documents can be obtained at https://www.sae.org).
b. This DID is related to DI-MSSM-81966, "Gas Turbine Engine Steady State and Transient Performance Presentations for Computer Programs" (DI-MSSM-81966 can be obtained at https://quicksearch.dla.mil).
c. DI-TMSS-81515D supersedes DI-TMSS-81515C and DI-IPSC-81490.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference DocumentsThe applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.
2FormatContractor format is acceptable.
3ContentThe User's Manual shall contain the information required by SAE Aerospace Standard AS681. In addition, the User's Manual shall contain the following:
3.1A clear, concise, and comprehensive narrativediscussing program philosophy, a history of the model including any relevant historical data or programs from which it was derived, a revision history or changelog of both the model and all applicable documentation, and a plain-language discussion of both acceptable and unacceptable use cases for the model. Additionally, the changelog must detail all model changes, updates and any resulting impacts on system performance.
3.2An enumeration of every assumption in the modelsthe range of applicability (estimated, if necessary), and justification. A detailed explanation of the performance calculation process for each engine component, including governing equations, an index of all subroutines in the model with explanations of their purpose, and identification of the function of each programming variable.
3.3Detailed explanations, both schematic and narrativeof the derivations of all empirical functions used in the model, and the rationale for all reference values used for normalized parameters.
3.4When introducing a new methodologya clear explanation of derivation and validation shall be provided, including detailed rationale behind its creation and the specifics of its implementation and comprehensive documentation that clearly outlines the method's limitations.
3.5An identification of any limitson the values of input parameters. Tabular and graphical output of every component performance map in the model. A detailed description, both in graphical (flow-chart) form and plain-language narrative, of the major engine control loops, the hierarchy of the loops, the control limits, and graphs of all engine control schedules represented in the model.
3.6A contract number, model distribution statementand highlights of any Data Rights assertions associated with the model and model data.
