To obtain information from contractors relative to the adequacy and accuracy of existing technical publications which are intended for use in support of the operation and maintenance of system/equipment(s).
a. This Data Item Description (DID) contains the format and content preparation instructions for the data product generated by the specific and discrete task requirement as delineated in the contract.
b. Provides an evaluation of the technical adequacy of existing technical publications and, as required, recommendations for changes which are considered necessary in order for the subject document(s) to comply with interfacing documentation requirements established by the procurement document.
c. Not authorized for use with Air Force Technical Orders (TOs).
Preparation Instructions
1Reference DocumentsNone.
2FormatData shall be in the contractor's format.
3.1Provide an evaluation report for all commercial technical publicationsregardless of source or type (i.e. technical manual, handbook, data sheet, etc.) intended for incorporation into the equipment/system technical support material package.
3.2Include but do not necessarily limit the report to the following information
aThe contractor's evaluation of the adequacy of text and supporting illustrations(Including schematic diagrams) to provide:
(1)A description of the equipment, its capabilities, and theory of operation.
(2)Procedures necessary to operate the equipment/system in all modes of operation.
(3)Instructions for preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, test alignment, and calibration procedures.
(4)Parts information sufficient to identify and order (from commercial or Government supply sources) failed parts.
(5)Software or firmware descriptions, where required, either through coverage or references to documents that contain pertinent information.
(6)A description of the installation.
bThe contractor's recommended change actions.
cOther information to support the evaluation.
3.3The report for each revised document shall provide the following information
aThe equipment/system contractor's name.
bThe contract number and date of the report.
cIdentity of the reviewing activity and the as of date of the review.
dVendor or supplier identification.
eComplete equipment nomenclature including part, model, and/or serial number.
fTitle of the document, publication reorder number, and date of issue.
gPrice and availability of the date and the quantity required.
