This Data Item Description (DID) is applicable to any system acquisition that includes a requirement for development of a Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) Procedures Technical Manual and is applicable to the entire system, for aircraft structures, missiles, and all major subsystems including airframe, engine, launch and recovery systems, mechanical subsystems and support equipment.
This DID contains the format, content and intended use information for the data deliverable resulting from the work task described in the solicitation.
Preparation Instructions
1Reference documentsThe applicable issue of the documents cited herein, including their approval dates and dates of any applicable amendments, notices, and revisions, shall be as specified in the contract.
2FormatThe NDI Procedures Technical Manual shall meet the general style and format requirements of MIL-STD-38784, General Style and Format Requirements for Technical Manuals.

3ContentThe NDI technical manual detailed instructions shall follow the Work Package (WP) and Subordinate Work Package (SWP) content and format of MIL-DTL-87929, Manuals, Technical - Operation and Maintenance Instructions in Work Package Format (For USAF Equipment). Additional guidance for the NDI technical manual can be found in TO 33B-1-1/NAVAIR 01-1A-16-1/TM 1-1500-335-23, Nondestructive Inspection Methods, Basic Theory. and in AFLCMC/EZ Structures Bulletin, EZ-SB-15-002 Requirements for NDI Procedure Development, Validation, and Verification for Aircraft Structural Inspections During Operations and Support Phase.
